Respect For Law
The West Plains Optimist Club's annual Respect For Law meeting provides an opportunity to recognize outstanding area law enforcement personnel for service and dedication to the citizens of the West Plains community and surrounding areas. The annual event is coordinated by Optimist member and West Plains Mayor Jack Pahlmann.
The 2016 Respect For Law meeting was held at Almost Famous BBQ on Thursday, September 8th. Pahlmann announced that Trooper Greg Tesch of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop G, was selected as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Tesch was nominated by Troop G Captain Mark Inman for his outstanding service both on the job and off.
Captain Inman noted that Trooper Tesch has taken a leadership role and was selected as Region Coordinator for Special Olympics Region 7, which includes all nine counties in the Troop G coverage area. Under Tesch's guidance and because of his contributions and efforts, in 2015 Region 7 earned the Greatest Percentage Increase and Highest Gross Increase in dollars raised to benefit the many participants in the Special Olympics program. And in 2016, the ongoing fundraising efforts are expected to exceed those of 2015. Tesch and Troop G have taken part in several fundraising activities, including a bass tournament (Angling for the Athletes), a 5K Memorial commemorating Sgt. Finley, a Polar Plunge event, and more.
Additionally, Trooper Tesch serves on the Board of Education in the Mountain Grove R-III school district, and works in support of the Wright County Board for the Developmentally Disabled and the Wright County Sheltered Workshop. He is also active in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and in the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and Willow Springs Art Council.
Trooper Tesch sets an example that all of us can look up to and aspire to match!
Captain Inman said it best:
"It is obvious that Trooper Tesch has a servant's heart and unselfishly serves the community in which he lives and works. It is with honor that I nominate Trooper Greg Tesch for the 2016 West Plains Optimist Award."
