The West Plains Optimist Club's annual Essay Contest is open to area students under the age of 18 who fit the eligibility criteria. Optimist member Scott Smith is the chair and organizer of the contest.
Essays are to be 700-800 words in length and to address a predetermined topic, announced each year.
Essays are evaluated by an independent panel of judges. Winners receive a club medallion and the opportunity to compete in the district level competition. District level prize is a plaque and $2500 scholarship.
